Simulation: Signal Integrity (1 day)

Simulation_Workshop_1140x400

UPDATE: This is part of the content in the Signal Integrity with Hands-On Simulation course.

Complement signal-integrity theory from “Lee Ritchey: Signal Integrity” with this hands-on workshop with simulation exercises. Try what you learn, so you combine theory with action. This leads to better learning as the theory sinks in much better when used.

This workshop is conveniently sandwiched in between the other courses in the “Copenhagen SI Week 2016”, and is designed to complement the “Lee Ritchey: Signal Integrity” course and earlier versions of the course or similar courses. Can also be used as a “refresher” if you haven’t used SI simulation for a while.

What’s Included

  • Hands-on lab exercises 9:00 to 16:00 interchanging between quick demonstrations and lots of hands-on with relevant design tools
  • Binder with all lab exercises
  • Coffee/the/water + fruit, pastries, and a full lunch
  • Signed course certificate
  • A limit of 20 participants

Lab Exercises

The practical lab exercises are designed to make you understand how you can easily create your own simulations of the four big challenges for most digital signaling.

  • Reflections
  • Crosstalk
  • SSN or Ground/Vcc-Bounce
  • Power Delivery (bypassing)
  • Stackup design for high speed

We use Cadence tools for the labs, but this is definitely not “tool training”. The tools are used as just that: tools. The emphasis is on getting some useful results out of simple simulations, with techniques you can adapt to your tool of choice and the circuits you are designing. Very minimal time is spent on how to operate the tools – and we will not go through all the menus.

You will, however, learn how to set up the simulations in the simplest possible way to get some fast results. And you will learn why a simulation tool is needed. What to look out for when using a tool like this. Understanding how simple SI simulations can be – yet provide plenty of good results will save you time as you start implementing this in your design work.

Two participants share one PC, which we have found to be most effective for learning. The PC’s are provided with the latest software installed ready to run.

Instructor

Rolf V. Ostergaard, M.Sc.EE. from EE-Training is the instructor. Rolf has worked with signal integrity in many different projects since working for 3Com in 1998 as a colleague to Lee Ritchey in Silicon Valley. While building a consulting business focused on advanced electronics and embedded software in Denmark, Rolf has been helping many companies with signal integrity and power integrity both as design, simulations, coaching, measurements and troubleshooting. Started conducting training in SI around 2004 and has trained hundreds of engineers, which lead to founding EE-Training to further expand this.

QUOTES

“Training worth attending more than pays for itself in added value for you and your project”

“Training is expensive. Good training is even more expensive. No training is the most expensive.”
