New PDN Tool to Optimize Bypass

August 2, 2025 by Rolf Østergaard

A new PDN Tool? Well, the pdntool.com page had been running for about 10 years when it suddenly stopped working. That triggered some quick efforts to get it going again. But also revealed a few things that made me take a deeper look at it, which led to a completely new version.

New PDN Tool - Click to start

The back story is this: I made this tool (or rather, had most of it made for me) to be able to use it in the labs that are an integral part of the main SI Course I run. Back then, I did most training face-to-face and as it turned out – some of the training rooms did not have internet access on the student PCs.

So while the tool was fine and quite useful for the lab, it was almost never used. Then came COVID and all training switched to online where the tool suddenly proved very useful. Now we are in hybrid times where some courses are online and some are face-to-face. And sometimes the firewall settings are quite strict when I go on-site to teach courses. All in all, it made sense to completely revamp the tool, which is what I did.

The new PDN Tool is here: https://pdntool.com/app

Give it a try and let me know what you think?

PDN Tool is Open Source

To support further development, the tool is released under an open-source license. So you can – and are actually encouraged to – download it and improve on it. There are many things that could make the tool better, and as everything is contained in one HTML file with embedded CSS and javascript, it is well suited as a small for-fun project to tinker with on the side. I would love to see what you can make it into and may very well include some of your improvements and bug fixes into the official version on the site. Happy hacking.

How we got un-hacked

May 29, 2024 by Rolf Østergaard

This website runs WordPress with a theme based on Genesis. Unfortunately, we were hacked on May 27, 2024. If that ever happens to you, do what you have to do. In our case, we found the file functions.php in the genesis theme to be modified. The file is supposed to be fairly empty, but it… Read more

Free IBIS Simulator: KiCAD 8?

March 24, 2024 by Rolf Østergaard

A long time ago I did a series of posts about Altium for signal integrity (part I, part II, part III). That did not go well for Altium. Ever since then, I have been on the lookout for a free or cheaper alternative to the kings of the mountain of signal integrity simulation: Hyperlynx and… Read more
